The craft beer craze has found a definite home here in Minnesota, with many different microbreweries opening throughout the Land of 10,000 Lakes. And now, two Minnesota craft breweries are ranked among the best in the country.

That's right, the group, Brewer's Association compiles a list of the top 50 craft breweries in the nation every year, based on beer sales volume. And this year, two of Minnesota's craft brewers made the list.

Minnesota's own August Schell Brewing Compnay in New Ulm came in at #27 on the list this year, and Summit Brewing Company was ranked at #29. Being a beer guy myself (that'd be the Wisconsin native in me coming out), I have to say I've contributed to the sales numbers for both those breweries. I love me some Summit EPA and Saga, and I also enjoy a good Shell's Firebrick (as well as some classic Grain Belt and Grain Belt Nordeast, also brewed these days by the Shell Brewing Company.)

The craft brewing craze isn't just catching on here in Minnesota, as the Brewer's Association noted that nationally, the number of craft breweries increased by 15%, according to BringMeTheNews. "That’s the most at any time in American history, the trade group says. And more than 100 of those are located in Minnesota," the story noted.

What was the top craft brewer, according to the list? That'd be D. G. Yuengling and Son, Inc., out of Pottsville, Pennsylvania. The highest ranking craft brewery near us hails from our neighbors to the east: New Glarus Brewing Company, based out of New Glarus, Wisconsin.
