With the Memorial Day weekend staring us in the face, you might be hitting the road and heading up north. Which means you'll want to take note of these potential problem spots along Highway 52.

Good 'ol US Highway 52 is, of course, the fastest way to get from Rochester to the Twin Cities. But, in case you haven't driven it northbound in a while, there are five different construction projects going on right now that have the potential to turn into big back-ups during peak travel times this weekend.

MnDOT says the busiest travel times will be Friday and Monday afternoons, so if you're heading north, watch out for the following spots! (My wife and I found out that while it's around 10 miles longer, we've headed west to Owatonna and then headed north on I-35 to get to the Cities the last two weekends and avoided back-ups altogether!)

+ The Highway-58 bridge replacement project in Zumbrota.

+ Road resurfacing between Rochester and Cannon Falls (paving work is currently north of Rochester in the Pine Island area as it continues to progress north.)

+ The bridge over the Little Cannon River just north of Cannon Falls.

+ Median work/construction of reduced conflict intersections between Cannon Falls and Coates.

+ Replacing the Highway 52 bridge over Dakota County Road 42 in Rosemount.

You can get the latest information on these projects from MnDOT HERE. Now, as to why they're all scheduled for this year -- I Don't Get It!
