The run is right around the corner. It is put on to raise money for Brian Staska, an Austin firefighter who is battling cancer.

I spoke with Mandee Marx, the Southern Minnesota regional rep for the Firefighter Cancer Support Network and one of the coordinators for the 5k. When talking about why she got involved, her response was, "Brian has been a huge influence in the fire service and has taught not only me, but so many other firefighters throughout his 35 plus years. It's an honor to be able to give back to him, and let him know that he has touched the lives of so many, both young and old, in the fire service."
