Minnesota is already hosting the 2018 Super Bowl and the 2019 NCAA men's basketball Final Four. And Tuesday, the state announced that the Land of 10,000 Lakes is looking to host another national championship, as well.

At a news conference Tuesday morning, Gov. Mark Dayton announced that Minnesota will be putting in a bid to host the 2020 College Football Playoff Championship.

BringMeTheNews.com reports that, "The College Football Playoff Championship would bring thousands of visitors to Minnesota and showcase our state to millions of Americans,” Governor Mark Dayton said, via WCCO. “We will pursue this premiere sporting event with the same determination that secured the 2018 Super Bowl and 2019 Final Four Tournament.”

All three big events are slated to be held at the new Vikings stadium, which is under construction and about halfway completed in downtown Minneapolis.

If Minnesota is successful in securing this new championship as well, it would remind me of when I was a senior at UW-Eau Claire back in 1991 and 1992. It was then, just 90 miles to the west, that the Twin Cities hosted the Super Bowl, Final Four, World Series, U.S. Open golf tournament and Stanley Cup Finals.

Let's hope they put in a winning bid. Go Minnesota!
