Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  Talk about good timing by Mother Nature. Winter officially begins Thursday morning in the Rochester area and that’s when we are being told to expect the first significant snow event since March 12th.

The current prediction is for a snowfall total of several inches.

The snow is expected to begin falling Wednesday night and continue into Friday. According to the National Weather Service, snow is expected mainly along and north of I-90 with 3 to 6 inches possible. The highest amounts will be north of I-94. There may also be a wintry mix with some light icing south of I-90.

Bitterly cold weather will move in for the Christmas weekend with below zero temperatures Sunday and Monday mornings. The high on Christmas Day may not get above zero.
