Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) - A fifth person has announced plans to run for Rochester mayor this year.

The latest candidate is 48-year-old Charlie O’Connell.

He has worked as the Security Intelligence Specialist for Mayo Clinic since 2016. He has been a member of the Minnesota National Guard and holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. O’Connell has lived in Rochester 17 years. Current Mayor Ardell Brede announced earlier this year he will not seek another term.

“The role of mayor is pivotal in setting forth strategic direction and policies that enable Rochester’s success as it continues to grow and change.  I believe my years of leadership, team building and thorough understanding of strategic and operational planning will enable me to add value as a member of Rochester’s leadership team and serve as a steady guide.”

O’Connell says  his platform and areas of focus will include ensuring that Rochester remains a safe and secure city, economic diversity, workforce development and affordable housing.
