To a fellow member of "The Club,"

You're about to get stronger. I know this isn't a "club" we want to be part of, but this won't last forever.

I know you've endured many sleepless nights, heart palpitations, negative thoughts that never seem to turn off, feeling uncomfortable in your own skin, and you often feel like you're the only one suffering from this torture. You aren't. At least 15 million Americans suffer from a form of either anxiety or depression.

I'll even be so bold as to tell you that this blog was written by someone who suffers from both. It's the hardest thing I've ever had to treat. It is, to this day, the most difficult medical condition I've had to admit to having.

After all, what do I have to complain about? I've got a great life, fun job, wonderful husband and cat... but something still isn't quite right. I feel it. Do you?

Again, you're not alone if you encounter a bout of mental illness, and yes - this feeling will pass. It won't last forever. Especially, if you seek treatment like I did. It really is the answer!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and as we near the completion of this month, I hope you'll join me in seeking help if you feel any of these symptoms at all.

Mayo Clinic has fantastic resources to start this process. We also have our own NAMI chapter. If you need immediate assistance, please click here.

Oh, and my name is Val. I'm here for you, too!
