Cascade Lake is located in northwest Rochester between Highway-14 and Second Street southwest. And, earlier this week, the Greater Minnesota Parks and Trail Commission awarded a $1,550,000 Legacy Grant for the Cascade Lake Park project, according to this KTTC-TV story.

Rochester Parks and Recreation officials have plans to make the entire area a pretty cool park. (Right now, there are some soccer fields and a paved bike trail around the lake.) New plans, though, call for many improvements to the area.

The story noted that Rochester Parks and Recreation officials said the entire Cascade Lake park project is estimated to cost around $3,200,000. The project already received a funding boost: According to this Post-Bulletin story, Cascade Lake project was the subject of a $2 million donation earlier this spring from the J. A. Wedum Foundation, which owns Shorewood Senior Campus and Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester.

The money will help develop the area into what looks like a really cool park, that will include “an amphitheater, visitors center, picnic shelters, landscaped garden, more tails, parking and a beach,” the story said.

You can check out the complete plan for Cascade Lake Park HERE. It looks pretty cool– and even though it won’t be complete for several years yet, I’m looking forward to spending more time around this little gem, nestled right in the heart of Rochester!
