CNN claims boyfriends and girlfriends can now be claimed as dependents. In order to qualify for a tax break, the boyfriend or girlfriend must live with you and earn less than $3,900 per year. You must pay for more than half of their expenses and they cant be claimed as a dependent by someone else.

Law enforcement officials are warning people about a new tax scam. Con artists have been randomly calling people and telling them they have warrants out for their arrest for evading taxes. The victims say the callers have Indian accents. None of the victims have ever had tax issues.

Some Americans are trying to deduct their weight loss programs from their taxes. A woman cannot deduct her breast enlargement surgery from her taxes unless it was done for medical purposes. Some exotic dancers try and claim their breast implants as business expenses.
Botox, liposuction, nose jobs, fake breasts and hair transplants can all be written off as long as it can be shown that the procedure was beneficial to the patients mental health.

With the U.S. tax deadline here, some singers are writing off their American Idol and The Voice auditions as a business expense. The tryouts are being classified as either a business trip or job interview. Accountants say the cost of plane tickets, food and lodging can all be legally deducted.

A study by the University of Toronto reveals that the number of fatal crashes jumps on days when taxes are due. Lead researchers studied 29 years of accidents and found an average of 226 fatal accidents on annual tax-due days and 213 on other days.
"Stressful deadlines lead to driver distraction and human error. It doesnt just hold on Tax Day but might also hold to other distinctly stressful times, such as when youre going through a divorce or something is wrong with your child or youve just lost your job."

More than 130 million Americans are expected to file a tax return. The IRS says some cranky taxpayers use Band-Aids, sewing needles and chewing gum to attach their W-2 income statements to their tax forms. One nurse reportedly attached her W-2 with a hypodermic needle while another distraught taxpayer smeared his tax return with blood and feces.

IRS workers usually receive a few nude photos while some taxpayers are actually nice and send candy, cigars and thank-you notes.

The IRS currently has $760 million in unclaimed tax refunds from 2010. The service will keep the cash if its not collected by April 15th.

IRS commissioner John Koskinen says the money belongs to 918,600 taxpayers. The window is quickly closing. We encourage students, part-time workers and others who haven't filed for 2010 to look into this before time runs out on April 15.
