Curt St. John

Hey, it's Curt St. John here, and I'm excited to join the Quick Country 96.5 staff! Growing up, being on the radio is all I ever dreamed of doing. And, after a stint that required me to wear a bear suit to be the mascot for an AM station that aired Chicago Cubs games in my hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin, I finally DID end up on the radio, working weekends and overnights while I earned a BA from UW-Eau Claire. I next worked several radio jobs in Eau Claire, including hosting a morning show for about 15 years. (That's a lot of getting up at 3:20 am!) After I met my beautiful wife, we got married (in Jamaica) and moved here to Rochester, where my wife was already working, in April of 2012. In my spare time, I like to get out on the mountain bike, catch ‘House Hunters’ on TV and work on our next batch of home-brewed beer. And, now that I'm here in Minnesota, I'm an avid Twins and Wild fan-- although I do confess to still rooting for certain MLB, NFL, and Big 10 teams that hail from a state just east of here. I'm excited to keep you company in the afternoon and play the most continuous country on your way home!

The Best ‘Ice Bucket’ Challenge I’ve Seen Yet

There have been a ton of different celebrities who have accepted the ALS Association 'Ice Bucket Challenge' recently-- from all sorts of country stars, including Tim McGraw, Kip Moore and Eric Church, to professional athletes like Joe Mauer, Aaron Rodgers and more. Even Bill Gates recently got in on the action. But the funniest challenge I've seen so far is the one Conan O'Brian did late last week...

Couples Race Each Other To Build IKEA Furniture

Shortly after we were married, my wife and I sat down in the living room to put together the gas grill her coworkers had given us as a wedding gift.  Now, as you may know, anytime the words "some assembly required" are uttered, the possibility for massive frustration lurks nearby. Pieces don't fit like they're supposed to. The directions are poorly written and don't make sense. You have what appear to be important pieces leftover. Yet, we worked well as a team, and haven't yet blown up the house when we fire up the grill.  So, which couple will win this battle to assemble a piece of IKEA furniture first: The couple who's been married 10 years, or the couple who's just met?

Big Trucks = Big Fascination, Almost 40 Years Later

They're busy repaving parts of 4th Street southwest in downtown Rochester today. It's the street that runs right in front of the Quick Country 96.5 studios and offices. So, of course, I had to wander out and take a look at what's entailed in the process of laying down a new layer of asphalt as the work crew moved south from 2nd Avenue southwest. It was then that it hit me: guys' fascination with big pieces of construction equipment never ends, does it?

Taylor Swift as ‘Natalie’ On Jimmy Fallon’s ‘Ew’! [VIDEO]

Taylor Swift has been dropping hints throughout social media right and left about something happening in regards to the number 18. But she's also honing her acting chops (she appears in the movie 'The Giver,' out this weekend) with a funny appearance Wednesday on 'The Tonight Show' where she also appeared as her alter-ego, 'Natalie.' 'Natalie,' along with Jimmy Fallon's 'Sara', did a little show-and-tell on Sara's show, 'Ew!'

Cat Plays – And Wins – Shell/Cup Game! [VIDEO]

We have three cats (and a dog) at home, and I can attest to the fact that when one of the cats wants something-- I mean, REALLY wants something-- like food, they can be awfully resourceful. Downright smart, actually. But as smart as our cats are, I'm not sure they'd be as smart as this cat is, at least when it comes to playing this shell/cup game!

Are You Enjoying ‘Shark Week’? These People Aren’t

Seeing as we're smack dab in the middle of Shark Week, there's nothing like a good, 'ol fashioned shark-themed prank pulled on unsuspecting victims, is there? These patrons of a London seafood market aren't expecting this animatronic shark to suddenly come alive and jump at them while they're perusing the day's fresh catch. Come to think of it, I wouldn't either. I mean, I like seafood -- I just don't want it to eat ME, though.

New Fitness Craze: Prancercising?!?

One of my new year's resolutions (remember those?!?) for this year was to get -- and stay --  a little more active. (Okay, and maybe lose a few pounds along the way too.) I've been doing alright; I either hit the gym, or these days, hit the Cascade Trail on my bike 3 or 4 times a week. I've even started doing a little jogging, and ran in my first 5K race back in July.  But, as it turns out, I should have just started Prancercising. That's right, Prancercising. Because, as she says, Prancercising is back in style, baby!

Day Brightener: Puppy Leaps And Jumps In Slow Motion [VIDEO]

With all the sad news of Robin Williams' passing yesterday (and all the other horrible things happening in other parts of the world), here's a little day-brightening diversion for you: a puppy!  And, not just any puppy. This puppy gets the treatment from the Slo-Mo Guys, and this time they've filmed a puppy as he leaps and jumps for a treat.

Robin Williams As Troops ‘Retreat’ On Him [VIDEO]

Robin Williams was such a huge figure -- he was a brilliant comedian, and an Oscar-winning actor, of course -- but was also quite the humanitarian, raising money for many different causes. He also spent many hours during the holidays overseas, performing for our troops with the USO. Here's a cool video that shows how Robin reacted when, in the middle of his performance, his audience of military personnel suddenly turned their backs on him in (what he jokingly called) 'retreat'.
