Curt St. John

Hey, it's Curt St. John here, and I'm excited to join the Quick Country 96.5 staff! Growing up, being on the radio is all I ever dreamed of doing. And, after a stint that required me to wear a bear suit to be the mascot for an AM station that aired Chicago Cubs games in my hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin, I finally DID end up on the radio, working weekends and overnights while I earned a BA from UW-Eau Claire. I next worked several radio jobs in Eau Claire, including hosting a morning show for about 15 years. (That's a lot of getting up at 3:20 am!) After I met my beautiful wife, we got married (in Jamaica) and moved here to Rochester, where my wife was already working, in April of 2012. In my spare time, I like to get out on the mountain bike, catch ‘House Hunters’ on TV and work on our next batch of home-brewed beer. And, now that I'm here in Minnesota, I'm an avid Twins and Wild fan-- although I do confess to still rooting for certain MLB, NFL, and Big 10 teams that hail from a state just east of here. I'm excited to keep you company in the afternoon and play the most continuous country on your way home!

Now THAT’S How You Throw Out The First Pitch

Throwing out the first pitch at any baseball can be a nerve-wracking assignment. And, seeing as Monday night is Free Trading Card Night at the Rochester Honkers game, where one Quick Country listener will get to chance to toss out the first pitch, here's a clip of actor Jeff Bridges throwing-- or, bowling-- the first pitch "Lebowski style" at the LA Dodgers game. Way, to go, Jeff!

Hey Minneapolis: You Might Want To Update That Sign…

My wife and I had tickets to Saturday night's Paul McCartney show at Target Field, and knowing that he puts on a show that usually lasts nearly three hours, we decided to stay overnight in downtown Minneapolis after the show. We always have a good time hanging out downtown -- even if their landmark location signs might be a little out of date!

How Brian Williams Reported News Of His Daughter’s New Job At NBC

When you work in the news business, being unflappable and (hopefully) unbiased are two things you're supposed bring to the table. NBC's Brian Williams does a pretty good job of doing both those things in this clip where he announces that his daughter (although he never says that) has been cast in the new NBC live performance of Peter Pan.

Why Doesn’t Keith Urban Have An Accent When He Sings?

There aren't a lot of British or Australian natives in country music, except for Keith Urban (and maybe Sherrie Austin, if you remember her), but have you ever wondered why it is that Keith's strong Australian accent when he's talking (like when he's on American Idol) virtually disappears when he's singing, I have the answer!

A Look At The Guys Who Made ‘Sharknado’ [Video]

Did you happen to see 'Sharknado 2' Wednesday night on Syfy?  I have to say, I didn't -- but only because I also didn't see the first 'Sharknado,' either. 'Sharknado' was the made for TV movie from 2013 starring noted B-list celebrities, Ian Ziering and Tara Reid.  It's known for being so shlocky and bad that it's actually entertaining.  The sequel, 'Sharknado 2,' is supposed to have been just as bad'-- er, good.  But just who's behind these cinematic masterpieces?

Cat Playing Ping-Pong – And He’s Pretty Good, Too! [Video]

Our new cat, Finnegan, is an orange tabby who has a lightening paw when it comes to toys.  If we dangle one of those cat toys-on-a-string anywhere near him, he instantly swats it with his paw and then proceeds to try to drag said toy off somewhere-- if he could only get it off the string, that is.  So, I'm guessing he has the reflexes needed to also play a mean game of ping-pong, like this cat...

If You’re Heading South On US-52, Rochester Doesn’t Welcome You Anymore?

I noticed this the other day as my wife and I were coming back from the Twin Cities, heading south along Highway-52 just north of the 65th St. overpass: The stone sign that said 'Rochester Welcomes You' was missing. But where did it go?!?

Behind The Scenes With Carrie Underwood And The Sunday Night Football Intro [Video]

The weather we've been experiencing lately sure feels more like September than it does late July. Add in the fact that NFL training camps are now in full swing, and it's never too early to start looking forward to this year's NFL season. And if you're a fan of Sunday Night Football, Carrie Underwood, or what goes into putting together a network TV intro (and I'm a fan of all three), here's a look behind the scenes at Carrie Underwood-- and a few of the NFL's top players-- shooting the open to this year's Sunday Night Football.

Now THAT’S How You Make A U-Turn!

I was just talking with my wife's nephew last weekend about taking your driver's test-- and how I was the only one in my family who had to take it a second time before passing. I always gave myself a pass because I took the test in my dad's 1978 Oldsmobile Delta 88, which was about the size of the barge you might see on the Mississippi River. Well, after watching THIS video of a guy in an 18-wheeler pulling off a really tight u-turn, I'm guessing I don't deserve much sympathy...
