Curt St. John

Hey, it's Curt St. John here, and I'm excited to join the Quick Country 96.5 staff! Growing up, being on the radio is all I ever dreamed of doing. And, after a stint that required me to wear a bear suit to be the mascot for an AM station that aired Chicago Cubs games in my hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin, I finally DID end up on the radio, working weekends and overnights while I earned a BA from UW-Eau Claire. I next worked several radio jobs in Eau Claire, including hosting a morning show for about 15 years. (That's a lot of getting up at 3:20 am!) After I met my beautiful wife, we got married (in Jamaica) and moved here to Rochester, where my wife was already working, in April of 2012. In my spare time, I like to get out on the mountain bike, catch ‘House Hunters’ on TV and work on our next batch of home-brewed beer. And, now that I'm here in Minnesota, I'm an avid Twins and Wild fan-- although I do confess to still rooting for certain MLB, NFL, and Big 10 teams that hail from a state just east of here. I'm excited to keep you company in the afternoon and play the most continuous country on your way home!

Check Out Darth Vader’s Original Voice!

Seeing as I make a living using my voice, I've always been fascinated by those behind-the-scenes stories about how various voices (and/or actors) were chosen for the part that ended up making them famous. Like this story of how James Earl Jones ended up as the voice of Star Wars' Darth Vader. But do you know what the character's "original" voice sounded like?

13 In A Row: Blake Breaks His Own Record For #1 Songs…Again!

In case you weren't watching The Voice on Monday (where Carson Daly made the announcement on live TV), in addition to winning his fifth consecutive CMA Award for Male Vocalist of the Year last week, Blake Shelton also just broke his own record, as "Neon Light" earlier this week became his 13th No. 1 single in a row!  That's quite a string of No. 1 hits. But can you remember which Blake song started his streak of No. 1 hits?

Garth Gets Surprise Visit From Cancer Patient He Sang To Friday In Minneapolis

You've no doubt either read about or have seen the footage of Garth Brooks singing to Theresa Shaw, a cancer patient form Osage, Iowa, during his Friday night show at Target Center in Minneapolis. Well, earlier this week, Garth was on Entertainment Tonight, talking about what was going through his mind while he was singing to Theresa Friday night, when he was surprised on the ET set by a visit from Theresa herself.

Pat Sajak Finally Loses It On ‘Wheel’

We've all seen those videos of people on Wheel Of Fortune making really bad guesses. The correct answer seems so simple to us watching at home, even if it IS tougher than it looks when one is playing the game, under the lights, live in the studio. Pat Sajak, longtime host of 'Wheel,' always seems to take those almost-ridiculous guesses in stride, calmly saying something like, "Not quite!" while trying not to make the contestant feel bad. Until this time, when Pat just can't quite take all those lousy guesses any longer...

A Patriotic SaluteTo Our Soldiers, Past And Present

On this cold, snowy Veterans Day, I'd like to pause a moment acknowledge all veterans. My dad served in the Army in Vietnam, and I have several friends who've also worn the uniform of our country. We don't often stop and thank them for all they've done. One doesn't join the military to become rich, or to seek fame or fortune. But they do it anyway-- and I'm extremely thankful for their sacrifice. Thank you for your service!

39 Years Ago: The Edmund Fitzgerald Sank In Lake Superior

Seeing as parts of Minnesota are getting walloped today, courtesy of an early-season potent winter storm, I was reminded that Monday, November 10th is also the 39-year anniversary of another storm over northern Minnesota and Wisconsin that ended up claiming the lives of the 29 men aboard the Edmund Fitzgerald when it broke apart and sank in Lake Superior.

Chance’s Weekly Pigskin Picks: Packers vs Bears

My dog, Chance -- Quick Country's own prognosticating pooch -- has been attempting to predict the winner of the Vikings game each week, and so far, he's got a 4-and-2 record. But this week, the Vikings have the bye and aren't playing. There is, however, an NFC North battle Sunday night in Green Bay between the Packers and the Bears. So, who does Chance think will win this contest?

Cute Alert: Little Boy And His Best Friend Penguin

One of my favorite cartoon strips of all time is Calvin and Hobbes, by Bill Watterson. It's the story of Calvin, a mischievous 6-year-old boy and his stuffed tiger, Hobbes. The cartoon is great, though, because it's in Calvin's mind that Hobbes, the tiger, comes to life. I won't divulge any more and ruin this video for you, but suffice it to say that if you liked Calvin and Hobbes, you'll love this, too. (And almost forget that it's a commercial for a British department store!)

Cartoon ‘Graffiti’ Left On Minnesota Company’s Headquarters

Usually, when you hear about graffiti, it's not a good thing. It's usually the case where someone has defaced a school, park or some other public property that will now need to be cleaned up. But not in this case. This time, the Minnesota company whose building was the victim of graffiti was actually left laughing!
