Curt St. John

Hey, it's Curt St. John here, and I'm excited to join the Quick Country 96.5 staff! Growing up, being on the radio is all I ever dreamed of doing. And, after a stint that required me to wear a bear suit to be the mascot for an AM station that aired Chicago Cubs games in my hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin, I finally DID end up on the radio, working weekends and overnights while I earned a BA from UW-Eau Claire. I next worked several radio jobs in Eau Claire, including hosting a morning show for about 15 years. (That's a lot of getting up at 3:20 am!) After I met my beautiful wife, we got married (in Jamaica) and moved here to Rochester, where my wife was already working, in April of 2012. In my spare time, I like to get out on the mountain bike, catch ‘House Hunters’ on TV and work on our next batch of home-brewed beer. And, now that I'm here in Minnesota, I'm an avid Twins and Wild fan-- although I do confess to still rooting for certain MLB, NFL, and Big 10 teams that hail from a state just east of here. I'm excited to keep you company in the afternoon and play the most continuous country on your way home!

My Dog and Cat Are Teaming up to Steal Our Food

If you have pets like ours, you know how much they like their food-- and everybody else's food, too.  It wasn't bad enough that Chance, our Beagle-mix, has already downed an entire box of crackers, a wedge of bleu cheese, plus a candy dish full of Hersey's Kisses; now, he's getting help from our cat, Finn, who apparently knocks food off the kitchen counter overnight, which Chance then gets to devour.

Chance’s Weekly Pigskin Picks: Vikings vs Panthers

My dog, Chance, got back on the winning side with last week's prediction that the Packers would top the Vikings at home. Although it was close, as we know, the Packers ran out the clock and left Minnesota with a victory-- and so did Chance. His record now stands at 5 correct predictions and 4 misses. So who does he think is going to win when the Panthers head to TCF Bank Stadium to take on the Vikings on Sunday?

Top 10 Excuses For Missing Thanksgiving Dinner With Your Family

My wife and I will be hitting Highway-52 tomorrow to travel up to the Cities to be with our family for Thanksgiving dinner. And, of course, we're not alone. The week of Thanksgiving is one of the busiest weeks when it comes to people travelling across the highways and byways of our great country to be with relatives they haven't seen in forever and get together for a big meal. But what if you don't really WANT to be with your relatives this Thanksgiving?

Jimmy Kimmel’s Thanksgiving Carols (with Meghan Trainor)

Ah, yes. Thanksgiving. The unofficial start to the Holiday Season. I used to work at a radio station back in Wisconsin that would start playing all-Christmas music the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Hearing all those Christmas songs usually did put me in the holiday spirit, but I often wondered why there weren't at least a couple of songs written specifically about Thanksgiving. Fortunately, Jimmy Kimmel noted the same thing-- and he did something about it.

He’s Got The Right Idea: Giant Panda Loves The Snow

Our early start to winter this year (after a spring that seemed like it was never going to get here) has me-- a guy who usually doesn't mind the snow and cold, mind you-- already grumbling about how long this winter is shaping up to be. It doesn't help that there's more snow in the forecast in the next few days, either. But maybe this giant panda has the attitude I should adopt...

Last Year For 40,000 Light Bloomington Christmas Tree?

I took advantage of Sunday's rare respite from our cold November weather and finally got all our outdoor Christmas lights put up. We have some lights on the shrubs, a couple of string of icicle lights along the eves, and a couple of strings along our deck and fence in the backyard. It looks nice, but there aren't a ton of lights-- certainly not as many as this huge oak tree in Bloomington. But will this be the last year for the tree with 40,000 lights?

Canadian Crowd Finishes U.S. National Anthem After Sound System Fails

Having worked in the media now for over 26 years, I'm well aware that technical difficulties can, and often do, appear at the most inopportune times. It's just a fact. So, it's always good to have a back-up plan, like a spare microphone or cord, or extra batteries when you're on-location doing a broadcast. But what do you do if you're singing the U.S. national anthem before a Maple Leaf/Nashville Predator game in Toronto and the sound system fails?

Just How ‘Minnesota’ Are You?

When an audio recording of Taylor Swift doing a 'Minnesota Soccer Mom' accent surfaced late last week, it got me wondering just HOW Minnesota Taylor really is-- or isn't. (Turns out 'isn't' is more appropriate-- she was born in Pennsylvania but moved to Nashville when she was 14 to pursue her music career, and has never spent any time in Minnesota). But, just how 'Minnesota' are you?  Take this handy quiz and find out...
