Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester police continue to investigate a discovery that was made following a traffic stop Tuesday night.

A spokesman says an officer noticed some suspicious behavior by the driver of a vehicle and initiated a traffic stop in the vicinity of Riverside Elementary School. While speaking with the 23-year-old man and his 19-year-old female passenger, the officer detected the smell of marijuana, but a search of the vehicle failed to find any illegal drugs and the pair was allowed to leave.

A short time later, while the officer was still parked at the scene, a person living in the neighborhood approached and informed the officer that a bag containing a half pound of pot and a scale had been found in their front yard.

Investigators are hoping to use DNA tests to connect the drugs to the occupants of the vehicle.
