(Because We’re Not Fat Enough)… A Half-Waffle, Half-Donut Creation Called the Wonut
OK, admit it. You want to try one. I would! - Alan
Waffles Cafe in Chicago has created a pastry called the ‘Wonut” - a deep-fried waffle-donut hybrid, which is their answer to New York’s “Cronut.”
The 2-hour process involves making normal waffles in a grill, but then it’s deep fried in vegetable shortening and dipped in a sugar, marshmallow, maple, or chocolate glaze.
Just like donuts, customers can get them plain, sugared, or glazed, but other popular flavors for the crispy sweet treat are red velvet and green tea.
They cost $2.35 each, they’re selling like hotcakes, and soon they’ll be available gluten-free as well.
