Ever wonder what the view of the Med City looked like from on top of one of those two cranes at St. Marys Hospital?

Thanks to the Mayo Clinic expansion project at St. Marys, those two large cranes -- topping 220 feet each -- have been a part of the Med City skyline for awhile now. One of the crane operators took a GoPro camera with him up into the crane and took some pretty cool footage of that area of southwest Rochester.

And did you know that when work stops and those cranes are shut down for the night, they're set on 'weather vane' mode? This means they pretty much spin freely with the prevailing wind, as a weather vane does, so they don't come crashing down during a strong gust. (I didn't know that until a few years ago when my buddy, Tim, a broadcast engineer for a local TV station for which I used to work explained how they worked...)
