Blake Shelton was forced to cut short his first public performance since his divorce became public after storms threatened the crowd.

Shelton performed at Country Jam USA in Eau Claire, Wisc. on Friday (July 24), marking his first official public appearance since news of his divorce from Miranda Lambert became public on Monday. But while concertgoers say he was in good spirits, Mother Nature wasn't cooperating -- and apparently, neither was some of his equipment.

A fan named Alexandria Perella tells People that Shelton admitted to some apprehension, saying, "I'm nervous tonight and I tend to drink when I get nervous." Despite that, he seemed to be fine during the performance, joking with the crowd about the impending bad weather by saying, "Since I came all this way let's go until they tell us to stop," and adding, "So many hot girls out here tonight."

Another fans says Shelton was trying to get the cameras to show the crowd on the large screen above the stage, but couldn't get that to happen, causing him to joke, "Come on, who's in charge here? This isn't my week."

Shelton ended up having to end his performance early due to the bad weather, telling the fans there was "some serious s--t coming" and to stay safe, adding that he would see them next year. He apologized via Twitter afterward:

The singer returned to work on the set of The Voice earlier in the week, while Lambert dropped in unannounced for her first public performance since the split on Wednesday night (July 22) in Nashville, singing a duet with Ashley Monroe at her album release party for The Blade. On Friday the former spouses surprised fans by exchanging playful tweets, just as they had when they were married. Click through that exchange below.
