The Country Music Association has released a new promotional spot for the upcoming 2016 CMA Awards, and the clip plays up the nostalgia of the show's 50th anniversary while promoting the recently released "Forever Country" project.

Under a single spotlight and standing back to back, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood sing a medley of John Denver‘s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” and Dolly Parton‘s “I Will Always Love You" as Paisley strums the melody on an acoustic guitar; both songs are part of the recently released for “Forever Country” single and music video assembled to celebrate the CMA Awards' 50th year. At the end of the clip, the words "Then. Now. Forever Country." appear on the screen, also nodding to the celebratory theme that the awards show has adopted for 2016. CMA Award-winning songwriter Shane McAnally produced “Forever Country,” while the accompanying video was directed by Grammy Award-winning director Joseph Kahn. The single features 30 of the biggest names in country music singing the medley of “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” Willie Nelson‘s “On the Road Again” and “I Will Always Love You.”

“We said we’re going to do a mashup like “We Are the World,” and people were like, ‘What?’” McAnally recalls. “After Dolly and George Strait agreed to do it, it felt like everyone took a step back and were like, ‘Wait, what is this?’ Then we were able to put all of those asks out to the stars.”

For the ninth consecutive year in 2016, Paisley and Underwood will return as co-hosts for the CMA Awards. Underwood says they're hoping to make this year's ceremony "feel like the 50th year."

"We want it to be big and be beautiful and be elegant,” she explains. “Brad says he’s going to wear a tux. We’ll see. We’ve been kind of already initially starting to talk about the tone we want to set for the awards, because it is, like I said, a special one.”

Both Underwood and Paisley will also be performing at the 2016 CMA Awards. Underwood is nominated for four trophies, including Entertainer of the Year.

The 2016 CMA Awards will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on ABC on Nov. 2 at 8PM ET. “Forever Country” is available for download on iTunes; the song debuted on the charts at No. 1. Proceeds go to the CMA Foundation’s music education work.
