The 2014 People’s Choice Awards are going a little country this year. Brad Paisley has been announced as one of the performers during the 40th annual awards show.

Paisley will join a long list of stars set to be in attendance at the awards show, but he’s the first country performer to be announced. Sara Bareilles and OneRepublic are also booked to take the stage at the show in Los Angeles.

The People’s Choice Awards celebrates movies, TV and music, with two categories specifically for country music — Favorite Country Artist and Favorite Country Music Icon. But that doesn’t mean country superstars can’t be nominated in other categories.

Blake Shelton is a Favorite Male Artist nominee and Favorite Album Nominee for ‘Based on a True Story…’ but he’s up against stiff competition in both categories.

Paisley will, no doubt, represent the genre well. After all, the ‘Beat This Summer’ singer held his own when he hosted the 2013 CMA Awards alongside Carrie Underwood.

Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Drew Barrymore, Nina Dobrev, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Robert Downey Jr., Zac Efron, Queen Latifah, Melissa McCarthy, Ian Somerhalder and Miles Teller are all among those celebrities who are expected to show at the awards show this year.

The 2014 People’s Choice Awards air live Jan. 8 from the Nokia Theatre L.A. Voting is still open in some categories — cast your vote on the People’s Choice Awards website.
