Like his summer tourmate Maddie Marlow, Brad Paisley is ready to see Americans stop tearing each other down following the 2016 presidential election. In a recent interview, the country star shared his thoughts about the election's divisive outcome, and having Donald Trump as the next U.S. president.

“I am really sick of this climate — really sick of the negativity. I have two little boys, and I want them to feel like this is the nation that I know. That this is the nation that isn’t petty," Paisley tells People. "We have to be as good as we want to be as a nation. We have to do these things, we have to find love.”

Although Paisley admits that he felt election season was "so absolutely long" (a sentiment he echoed in a tweet on Election Day), he also says that he is interested to "move on and see what happens" when Trump takes office in January.

"It’s really going to be an interesting thing to see where we go from here, but I have complete and total faith in our country,” Paisley confesses. "I’m going to obviously do my best as a father to set a good example for my children, and I want them to see good examples from our leaders. So that is a challenge for our leaders to do that.”

Paisley adds that Trump's recent meeting with President Barack Obama was encouraging to him.

"When you see Obama and Trump shake hands and seem to show respect to one another — that is what we need,” he notes. “I think it’s really important right now. [I was] inspired by watching [it].”

Paisley recently released a new single, "Today." The song is the first from an upcoming new album.
