Byron, MN (KROC AM News) - A man with a criminal record dating back at least 15 years created a stir in Byron yesterday while trying to get away from police.

The incident began at 12:30 p.m. when an off duty officer spotted 32 year old James Minter, who was wanted for violating his probation in Winona County. He was placed on probation in February -  for fleeing police.

It was later learned there four warrants issued for his arrest. Deputies sent to Byron spotted Minter driving a car but he got out and ran. Several officers and a police dog were brought in to locate Minter and he was found an hour later at a relative’s home.

During the search, the Byron school was put in a soft lockdown as a precaution.

Authorities say the car Minter was driving had been stolen from Rochester.
