Whether you grill with gas or charcoal is a debate that's as hotly contested as the debate over putting up a real or artificial Christmas tree. I could be wrong, but I believe it's written in the Minnesota statutes somewhere that all state residents must fire up the grill sometime during this long holiday weekend. But the question is, which way is the best way to grill?

The debate is intense-- and it can provoke some pretty strong responses. The charcoal grillers point out that their method takes much more skill -- you have to get that fire just right -- and also offers a more authentic 'grill' flavor.

Gas grillers, however, point out that their method allows you to have much more control, and is much more convenient-- especially when it comes to getting the grill ready. Just light it, wait a few minutes and you're good to go-- no waiting for the charcoal to be ready.

I've had both ccharcoal and gas grills, and I have to say, they both have their advantages. There's nothing better than lighting a charcoal grill, then cracking a beer while waiting for the coals it get to the perfect temperature.

On the other hand, you really can't be the precision and ease a really good gas grill gives you, as well-- especially if you're looking to get a great, high-temperature sear on your steak.

So, what say you? Which is the best way to fire up the grill?

No matter which method you choose, though, grilling out is one of the best parts of summer here in Minnesota. In fact, some people (like our fellow Quick Country co-worker Frank here) are SO into it, they've created their own song and music video. Check it out...
