City Attorney Disputes Open Meeting Law Violation Claims [VIDEO]
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Rochester City Attorney is disputing claims that the City Council might have recently violated the state’s Open Meeting law.
Terry Adkins says the issue was raised by the Rochester Post Bulletin after the City Council held a Committee of the Whole meeting at the new 125 Live facility (formerly Senior Center) that is under construction adjacent to the Rec Center. Following the meeting, members of the Council were given a tour and a Post Bulletin reporter indicated he was told the tour was closed to the public.
The City Attorney, during his regular appearance on the Rochester Today Show Wednesday morning on KROC-AM, said he left the meeting and returned to City Hall to do some work before the tour began and was caught by surprise the next day when the newspaper questioned why its reporter was told he could not accompany the elected officials. The incident led to several newspaper articles and an editorial concerning questions as to whether the Open Meeting Law had been violated.
In response, Adkins points out Kim David from KROC-AM went on the tour with the City Council and posted photos from the event on KROC-AM’s website that also show some members of the public participating in the tour as proof a violation did not occur.
