As TV's longest running late night host, David Letterman's retirement later this month is generating a lot of talk. And tonight, CBS is airing a 90-minute special that looks back at Dave's pioneering career on TV.

I've been a Letterman fan since back in the early 80's, just after his Late Night show debuted on NBC. Seeing as I was still in junior high at the time, I couldn't stay up until 11:30 each night to watch his show. At first, I could only watch during school vacations. (Letterman's show was only on Monday-Thursday nights back then, with NBC's 'Friday Night Videos' on Friday.) So I saved up enough money I'd earned from my paper route to finally buy a new-fangled (at the time, expensive!) VCR so I could tape each show and watch it the next day after I got home from school-- and finished my paper route.

It'll be cool to see some of those classic clips from the 80's on tonight's special. And this time, I'll be recording it on our DVR...
