I saw a story over the weekend about a guy who was so afraid of spiders, he accidentally burned down his house trying to get them out of it. (Not wise, by the way, to use a blow torch and some aerosol spray to try to rid your house of spiders...) Do you have any irrational fears?

I have to say, my big irrational fear is... the fear of choking.Whether I'm trying to swallow meds or eating, it doesn't matter. I'm consumed with the thought that something's going to get stuck in my throat, and I'm going to die choking. Heck, for many years, I couldn't even swallow meds. My throat would close up, and whatever pill I was trying to swallow would wind up lodged in my esophagus.

I guess, though, my fear isn't all THAT irrational, because it all stems back to a time about 15 years ago when I first choked on an a big cold capsule I was attempting to swallow. It got stuck in the 'ol throat REALLY good. I couldn't breathe even. Which is when I started to panic. Luckily, I was able to pat my throat enough (like you'd do to a dog when you're trying to get them to swallow a big 'ol pill) that I felt it finally plunk into my stomach. It was a little frightening, though-- which is where the 'irrational' part comes in, I guess.

Do you have any irrational fears? I asked some listeners and here's what a few of them had to say...
