The 62nd Eagles Cancer telethon was held over the weekend at the Mayo Civic Auditorium in Rochester. This is the longest running, locally produced telethon in America and this year, the total raised at sign-off was an incredible $1,041,447 dollars!

I had a chance to be a part of the stage crew that did a lot of work to get the acts on and off stage and I was there for the entire 20 hour telethon. It's really rewarding to see the smiles on all of the faces of the kids who do the dance teams. It's their moment to shine on TV and be a star.

I remember watching the telethon when I was a kid. Bernie Lusk was the host and he was there for the entire telethon as host. Some of the acts I remember watching were the Parrish Brothers and some act out of Iowa that played harmonicas.

A big thanks goes out to ALL of the volunteers who helped make it all happen. Without them, it wouldn't be the success it is today. And a BIG 'tip o' the hat' goes to the great people of the towns of Lyle and Geneva, MN. Their efforts combined with all of the fun they have, raised over $227,000 dollars! You are incredible!

If you want to be a part of the telethon talent, please contact the Eagles Club. The telethon try-outs are usually the last Sunday in October and the first Sunday's in November. For more and to donate online, click here: TELETHON. And THANKS! - Alan
