Additional Information

This spring Bethany Nursery School celebrated 50 years, serving nearly 4,000 Rochester preschool children during its tenure. Bethany Nursery School’s program offered a small, personalized preschool program that believed young children learn through play. The Bethany Nursery School Board of Directors voted to close the preschool in July due to low enrollment for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year. A public sale will be held (see details below). All proceeds will be tax-deductible and will be donated to the Kris Brown Memorial Fund to make a preschool education accessible to families who are unable to afford it. Kris Brown began teaching at Bethany Nursery School in 1987 and was named Director in 1995. She retired in 2015 while fighting cancer, and ultimately lost her battle with cancer in 2016. As Bethany Nursery School closes its doors, the board of directors voted unanimously to establish a fund in her honor with a goal of making preschool affordable for all Rochester children.

“Kris Brown dedicated her life to helping young children learn through play. She was Bethany Nursery School for 30 years. We could think of no better way to honor her mission that preschool should be accessible to all children,” said Bethany Nursery School Director Angela Vierkant.

Donations can be made at the Public Sale or directly to the Rochester Area Foundation at http://www.rochesterarea.org/
