Mark your calendar for the weekend of June 19th - 22nd for the 2014 Covered Bridge Music and Arts Festival. You won’t want to miss this fun event; it’s a great time to get together with neighbors, family and friends. In addition to the Music and Arts festivities, this year’s festival includes a spectacular line up of activities for all ages.
Start off the weekend early with “Zumbrota Rocks The Block” Thursday night, June 19th. Starting at about 5:00 pm, Historic Downtown is rockin’ with sidewalk sales, food and entertainment. On Friday how about taking your family for supper at the old fashioned Car-Hop at the United Redeemer Church parking lot (560 3rd St. W.). The Zumbrota Area Arts Council – ZAAC – is again hosting Family Movie Night at the Historic State Theater (96 4th St. E.) with a 7:00 pm screening of “UP” sponsored by the Goodhue County Chapter of Thrivent Financial. Those of us old enough can head on down to the VFW (25 1st St. E.) for their Friday night Free Street Dance featuring “The Fields”.
Saturday is full of activities for one and all, day and evening, starting with the annual Covered Bridge 5K
Fun-Run, a fund raiser for the Goodhue Pioneer Trail.
The Men’s Softball League will hold their tournament Saturday and Sunday at the Covered Bridge Softball Fields east of Highway 58. To sign up a team contact Darin Nelson at 507-261-3522. The Woman’s Volleyball tournament will be held at the Covered Bridge Park; contact Chrissy Flotterud at 507-259-5834 to sign up your team.

In the same area will be the 4-H Petting Zoo which has been a big hit for kids to see and hold a variety of farm animals. The Zumbrota Dance Studio Dancers will be on stage to entertain the crowd on Saturday at 11:00 am. The young kids will love to take a ride on Kaptain Kirby Train Rides as well.
Saturday morning at City Hall will be Red Wing Stoneware Pottery Sales. This year’s limited edition pieces are classic egg-separators with the Festival logo introduced at the 2006, 150th Zumbrota celebration; only 100 available for sale. Also an invaluable one-of-a-kind Red Wing Stoneware Butter Churn Lamp will be sold via silent auction. This “only one produced” will be awarded to the lucky high bidder at 1:00 pm. New this year is a free concert by The Everett Smithson Band at 1:00 pm near the Library. There will be dance and harmonic lessons along with this great zydeco and cajun music show.
The Street Market is also a very popular spot to be on Saturday. Vendors too numerous to list will be selling their wares on East Avenue. Nearby is the Zumbrota Area Arts Council’s Art in East Park. This annual juried Art Festival will also have live music with “Annie Lawler & the Wheelhouse Band” playing from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm and “Patchouli” from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. This event is a favorite and offers displays and sales of art and a variety of authentic handcrafted items.
