If you've got an exotic sports car -- one that's able to go really fast -- you want to see just how fast it'll go, right? Just don't do it on a public highway, like these 12 drivers recently did.

According to this KARE-11 story, 12 different drivers of exotic cars -- and we're talking Lambourginis and Maseratis here -- were busted over the weekend for using I-394 in the Twin Cities as their own racing track.

The story says numerous drivers were clocked by the Minnesota State Patrol doing well over 100 mph, right along I-394 in Golden Valley. "A trooper clocked a lime green Lamborghini in the left lane of westbound 394 at Winnetka Avenue traveling 110 mph. The trooper then observed approximately two dozen additional sports cars traveling well over the speed limit in the same direction as the Lamborghini. All were changing lanes and passing other motorists at high speeds," the story said.

Eventually, about seven of the 12 members were stopped and cited with reckless driving: racing on a street or highway, which is a misdemeanor offense here in Minnesota. Apparently, all the drivers are members of MN Exotics and Supercars (MNE & S), an invitation-only exotic car club in the Twin Cities that routinely schedules these kinds of events.

Some of even used a closed Facebook page to keep track of the turn of events after they were cited. This Star-Tribune story said, "Alfredo Santiago, 37, took a good-natured jab at one of his cruising buddies, saying, 'I already told them Ethan Hoover wasn’t going that fast because I passed him like he was standing still.' Santiago, of Andover, was stopped in a 2011 Nissan GT-R. Hoover, 27, of Bloomington, was driving a 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo, which has 552 horsepower."

Seeing as the base price of some of the cars is well over $300,000, I'm guessing these guys won't have a huge problem paying for their tickets. I wonder how much they pay for car insurance, though...
