Famous Painter Spotted in Rochester?
I was out trying to get my 10,000 steps in the other day when I spotted a famous painter-- right here in Rochester!
Now, mind you, seeing as I don't know much about art or artists, one would have to be fairly famous in the painting world for me to even recognize who they are. But, sure enough, I did.
I spotted this famous painter on the corner of 6th Street and 1st Avenue in southwest Rochester, across from the People's Food Co-Op, a block down from the Rochester Family YMCA. Sure enough, there he was: World famous host of 'The Joy of Painting,' Bob Ross.
Well, it wasn't REALLY him, of course, seeing as he tragically passed away 21 years ago, back in 1995. But it was a cool likeness of him, painted right there on some sort of metallic box that houses what I think are the controls for the traffic lights at that intersection. Or maybe something to do with the power. (I'm not really sure of the purpose of that box...)
But I do know it was him. Check out the picture and see for yourself. Now, though, the question is: How did Bob get there-- and who painted it?
