Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Red Cross is assisting the 8 members of a Rochester family who were chased out of their home by a fire Sunday afternoon. A news release from the Rochester Fire Department says the fire at 3832 McIntosh Lane Northwest was reported at 2:50 pm in a neighborhood located just south of 65th Street just west of Highway 52.

All of the occupants of the home had safely evacuated by the time firefighters arrived and found heavy smoke and flames coming out of the attached garage the residence. The fire, which had spread into the attic of the house, was quickly extinguished before it could move further into the structure.

A preliminary assessment of the damage found the garage and a vehicle inside it were likely destroyed, while the home sustained fire, smoke, and water damage. The dollar loss was estimated at $200,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. There are reports it may have started inside the vehicle parked in the garage.
