Starting today, there's a new place to grab a coffee and a donut here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, as the first Tim Hortons opens today in Minnesota.

Now while the Tim Hortons chain has been a staple all over our neighbors to the north (that'd be Canada, don'tcha know), this is the first time the Canadian chain has opened up a location here in Canada South (that'd be Minnesota, don'tcha know).

And it shouldn't be a surprise then, I guess, that the first Tim Hortons here in Minnesota will be located in the world's largest shopping mall-- the Mall of America in Bloomington. This Pioneer Press story says they're even offering up some opening day specials, too. "The first 50 customers in line get a $25 gift card and a 10-pack of Timbits — the company’s popular doughnut holes," the story noted.

I've you've never been to a Tim Hortons, it's fairly similar to any coffee shop-- kind of like a Caribou Coffee. Except, it's steeped in Canadian culture. Because the guy it's named after, Tim Horton himself, was an “NHL legend," as their site says, who opened his first coffee shop in Hamilton, Ontario, back in 1964.

And, seeing as it's Throwback Thursday, take a guess how much a cup of coffee and a doughnut cost you back in 1964. Try a dime. That's right, they each cost you a whopping 10-cents. (I’m guessing it’s just a wee bit more expensive than that now, though.)
