Flags Lowered in Minnesota in Honor of Firefighter
Mapleton, MN (KROC-AM News) - Governor Mark Dayton has ordered the lower of U.S. and state flag to half-staff at government facilities throughout Minnesota from sunrise to sunset on Sunday in honor and remembrance of a firefighter who died in the line of duty in late March.
Timothy Royce, a veteran member of the Mapleton Fire Department, died from an apparent heart attack on March 30th after participating in the response to a traffic crash and a medical emergency in the town of about 1,700 people just south of Mankato. He was 58-years-old and is survived by his two children and three siblings.
A celebration of his life will take place Sunday afternoon at the Maple River High School in Mapleton. The service will be followed by a procession of firefighting equipment from across Minnesota and neighboring states.
