Seattle WA, (Gophersports.com) - The No. 19/15 University of Minnesota Gophers had their season come to a close on championship Sunday of the NCAA Seattle Regional with a 15-7 loss to the University of Washington Huskies.

The Maroon and Gold did not go down without a fight. They trailed 12-2 in the fifth inning with their season on the line but put five runs across the board to keep the game going. Unfortunately for the Maroon and the Gold, the Huskies bats never cooled down and they were able to finish the game in six innings.

Seniors Nikki Anderson, Sydney Fabian, Taylor LeMay, Brandi McGregor, Paige Palkovich and Kayla Wenner played their final game in the Maroon and Gold. They leave with the highest winning percentage of any Gophers class with .873.

The Huskies jumped out to a 3-0 lead early on. The Gophers put on the board in the bottom of the inning when Sara Groenewegen hit an RBI single to left bringing in Danielle Parlich.

Washington scores more runs in the second, third and fourth inning to go up 9-1. Wenner started the bottom of the fourth dropping a bunt single. Sydney Dwyer followed with a double and Sam Macken brought in Wenner with a sacrifice fly.

The Huskies added three more runs in the fifth but the Gophers had one last gasp to keep their season going with big frame in the bottom of the inning.

Maddie Houlihan and Groenewegen both reached base to start things off. Houlihan made it to third on a fielder's choice play and advanced home when Palkovich reached on an error. Dwyer was later walked on a full count to load the bases with two outs. Fabian also battled to a full count and recorded an RBI walk.

Macken drilled a bases clearing double to knock in three more Gophers runs. She finishes the season with 22 doubles, second in school history for most in a season.

Washington sealed the victory with three more sixth inning runs. Anderson, Groenewegen and Stober all saw action in the circle with Groenewegen taking the loss. She finishes the year 31-7. The 31 wins mirrors her win total from last year and is second most in school history for wins in a season. She currently leads the NCAA in victories this season.

On the year the Gophers hit .318 as a team with 91 doubles, 67 home runs and a slugging percentage of .520. They went 43-14 overall and won the Big Ten Tournament championship.
