Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Governor Mark Dayton is recovering after undergoing surgery at the Mayo Clinic this morning.

The operation to remove his prostate was scheduled after the governor was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. At the time, Mayo Clinic doctors indicated Dayton's cancer was caught in an early, treatable and curable stage.

His office issued a statement this afternoon indicating the surgery went as planned. It began around 7:30 a.m. and was completed around 11:30 this morning. Following the procedure, Governor Dayton was said to be resting comfortably and would be joined by his family as he remains hospitalized in Rochester overnight.

He earlier stated that he hoped to resume his duties on Monday.
