I've never tried to flee the authorities, so I'm not an expert, but I'm guessing that if you're being chased by Duluth police, jumping into Lake Superior to try to get away isn't going to end well.

Yet, according to BringMeTheNews.com, that's exactly what a guy did earlier this week. The story says Duluth police were chasing a suspect in a domestic assault in Canal Park. Police had the suspect cornered, so rather than give up then and there, the suspect then climbed a wall and jumped into Lake Superior.

Now, I'm guessing that unless you're a REALLY good swimmer, diving into Lake Superior to outrun police isn't exactly going to lead to your freedom. Turns out, I'm right. Although his swim in the Big Lake they call Gitchee Gumee perhaps did buy him a little more time before he was taken into custody.

The story goes on to say, "The escape attempt worked, to a degree – police apparently didn’t follow him in. But after 10-15 minutes of wading, he decided he’d had enough and trudged back to shore for the warmth of dry land – and the back of a squad car. He was arrested for domestic assault and fleeing an officer."

Right. Duly noted. If you're trying to get away from police, jumping into Lake Superior probably isn't your best option. Anyone NOT see that one coming?
