Eyota, MN (KROC-AM News) - The new roundabout on Highway 14 at Eyota is open to traffic.

The $2.7 million dollar safety improvement project got underway in early May, and required the closure of the intersection of Highway 14 and Highway 42. It was originally slated to be completed before the Fourth of July holiday, but rainy weather caused some delays.

Residents of the area have long sought major safety upgrades at the intersection, which has been the site of numerous traffic crashes, including a number wrecks that resulted in deaths and serious injuries over the years.

A formal ceremony celebrating the completion of the project on Monday.

Another detour is planned in the same area starting on Monday as the Minnesota Department of Transportation begins a repaving project on Highway 42 between Eyota and Plainview. The $5.9 million project will include replacing some culverts and is scheduled to be completed in about a month.
