Now that the 2016 Holiday Season is officially underway, many of us put up those holiday lights and decorations over the weekend-- and so did downtown Rochester.

Even though we stayed in town the Thanksgiving weekend, I guess we didn't venture out downtown after dark, because my first glimpse of the festive lights decorating the Mayo and St. Marys campus areas was on my way into the station around 4 yesterday morning.

And, I have to say, my hat is off once again-- the holiday decorations look way cool and very festive! My favorite once again, though, has to be the Christmas tree on the south side of Mayo's Plummer Building.

I think it's a really cool tradition-- and one that definitely has some history here in Rochester. Here are some facts about the original Mayo Christmas tree, which appeared each holiday season on the Plummer Building from 1950 to 1956.

The Post-Bulletin also published an article on the tree during its debut two years ago, during the 2013 holiday season. I'm glad it's back again this year.

Where is your favorite holiday light display or decoration?
