The creator is Scotty Franklin of Springfield, Mo. He says the idea came to him when he was sitting on a beach wishing he could enjoy the sand but still keep his favorite boots on, so he made a pair. He says everyone that saw them wanted a pair, and the rest is history.

He now runs the company with his mom. They said they chose to have people send them their own boots to make sure that people could have exactly what they wanted when it came to type, color and fit.
