It's as much a rite of spring here in southeast Minnesota as spotting the first robin or the Twins opening up another season-- gas prices are going up. So just how high will they get this time?

Every time gas prices increase, it always seems like we're being played. Even though most analysts I've heard say the increasing prices are mainly affected by the markets, I can't help but that think the oil companies are gouging us, just because they can.

Now, of course, as we head into the Memorial Day weekend, prices are on the move up again here in southeast Minnesota. And while they're still below last years prices -- and well below the price spikes we saw back in previous years (like 2008, for example) -- they still seem to jump up much faster than they come down.

And what's the reason given this time? Seems like it's a combination of the price of crude oil increasing along with the always-popular 'switch over to the summer driving season.' Which all might, indeed be true, but it still smells fishy to me.

So how high are gas prices going to go this spring?
