Rochester Community and Technical College has been an important part of our local community for over 100 years-- and it contributes A LOT to the local economy too.

That's the word from a new Minnesota State (that's the parent organization that used to be known as MnSCU, of which RCTC is a part) study that looked at the economic impact RCTC has on the Rochester economy.

And, it's a pretty big impact. Like $231.9 million dollars worth. That's right, the study says when you combine the spending RCTC does as well as other businesses that support it, spending each year is over a quarter of a billion dollars. Not too shabby.

Here are some other statistics that stood out in the report: Over 8,000 students attend RCTC, which offers more than 70 different academic programs. Last year, it awarded 978 associate degrees, diplomas and certificates.

RCTC is no slouch when it comes to jobs, either. The report says it directly employs 460 people here in southeast Minnesota, but its reach is much greater: Overall, RCTC supports more than 2,009 Minnesota jobs (1,250 direct and 759 indirect/induced), the report noted.

And, RCTC adds to the community in other ways, too. Students, faculty and staff contributed to an estimated $1.4 million dollars in charitable donations and volunteer services, the report said.
