As the Honkers get set to open their home season tonight at Mayo Field, here's a little primer on how NOT to throw out the first pitch.

Check out this action shot of me catching some batting practice at Target Field. Hopefully, I'll be able parlay those skills into tossing out the first pitch, too... (CSJ/TSM-Rochester)

I've been lucky enough to get to throw out a couple of ceremonial first pitches, including one at Carson Park in Eau Claire before an Express game about 10 years ago. The irony here is that the Honkers lost to the Express in Eau Claire Tuesday night to open the 2016 season, and will host them again Wednesday night here at Mayo Field.

So, I don't want to embarrass myself too much. You want the pitch to be right down the middle, over the plate, so the catcher can easily grab it. If you bounce it in, the crowd could boo you -- and ain't nobody got time for that.

Earlier this year, I was lucky enough to get to attend the Minnesota Twins Radio Affiliate Fantasy Camp, where I was able to work on my fielding (as that action shows -- check out that catch I made!), but we didn't do much pitching.

Hopefully, I'll be able to sail one right across the plate. On the other hand, I could go for the humorous angle, like Bill Murray did a couple of years ago. Check it out below -- and watch where his pitch ends up.
