I noticed this the other day as my wife and I were coming back from the Twin Cities, heading south along Highway-52 just north of the 65th St. overpass: The stone sign that said 'Rochester Welcomes You' was missing. But where did it go?!?

The sign, if memory serves me correctly, was similar to the sign that sits on the east side of Highway-63, just north of the airport.  I suspect the missing sign, that used to be on the west side of Highway-52 near the 65th St. overpass, had to be removed when the 65th St. southbound off-ramp and northbound on-ramp were constructed last year.

But where is it? Who actually owns it?  And shouldn't we put it in a new spot, a little farther north on Highway-52 to greet visitors to our fine city from the north? I remember seeing that sign and thinking it was a nice gesture when I drove into Rochester a few years ago for the first time since college.

Or, maybe we're only concerned with welcoming visitors from the south!  Does the missing sign mean we're not supposed to welcome visitors from the north anymore? (Or is it more that I apparently have a lot of spare time in which to contemplate such things?-- Don't answer that...)
