Community service is big in a lot of high schools. Some students do it because they love service. Some do it because it'll look good on their transcripts and resumes. And sometimes, they all do it because they feel a deep appreciation for those they're serving. Like those who served all of us in the military.

This year the John Marshall High School American Studies students are focusing on providing dinner to veterans in an area Veterans Home or VA Hospital this Thanksgiving. Not just some of the veterans, tho. All of them.

In the past, the Rockets have helped fundraise for the program that feeds veterans. But this year their goal is to provide ALL the money it'll take to get dinner done. According to their press release,

We hope to feed over 2,000 veterans, their families, and staff in the Fischer House in Minneapolis, the Mosher Home in LaCrescent, the Veterans Home in Minneapolis, the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, and the VA Hospital in Tomah, Wisconsin. Our goal this year is to add the VA Hospital in St. Cloud as well.

Your first chance to help 'em raise the money they'll need is at the “Slices for Soldiers: Feed our Vets” pizza feed coming up November 8th (a Thursday). It'll be in the JM Cafeteria from 5-7 and all they're looking for is free-will donations. But you're going to a fundraiser, so please, if you can, bring along money you can donate, too. Or just buy one of the silent auction items for an outrageous amount of money (it's going for dinners for veterans...it's the least we can do, right?).
