I'm a 27-year-old woman with a full time career (6 years now), have good credit, and a fairly clean driving history, so why can't I get insurance? Well ladies and gentlemen, it's because I've adopted a "monster."

I'd like to introduce you to said monster. This is Mika!

WARNING:

Looking into her eyes will make you fall in love immediately!!!

I have never been so dumbfounded in my life! It never even crossed my mind that I would hear a company say they wouldn't even give us a quote because she MAY have some pit bull in her (I say may because she is an adopted stray, so we don't have a lot of info about her history). She's by far the SWEETEST dog I've ever had. She snuggles, gives TONS of kisses, and hasn't shown even the slightest bit of aggression towards our other dog, the cats, OR our little man!

I can understand charging more because I have a dog (for incidentals), BUT completely writing me off because of her breed. That's just INSANE! Sorry, but not sorry for adopting this beautiful animal!

I'm not going to throw the company under the bus, but lets just say 15 minutes certainly did NOT save me any money on insurance...

According to Petfinder.com:

***MYTH***Pit Bulls are all inherently vicious!!!

"Reality:
This is a stereotype that is biased toward generalizing and condemning an entire breed based on the actions of a few bad people. The truth is that each dog should be evaluated by his own merits and not by his breed. A corollary truth is that there truly are no bad dogs, only bad people. In his essay Troublemakers, Malcolm Gladwell discusses what Pit Bull stereotypes can teach us about the wrongness of racial profiling of both humans and dogs."
