Remember almost three years ago, when the dreaded Polar Vortex plunged most of Minnesota into a long lasting deep freeze? Well, guess what might be set to make a comeback here in the Med City.

January of 2014 went down as one of the coldest winters months in these here parts, thanks to what everyone called the Polar Vortex. It sent a blast of extremely cold Arctic air right into Minnesota, and dropped temperatures to some  nearly historic, double digits below zero readings.

It was so cold on January 6th, 2014, that Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton closed schools across the entire state. Temperatures flirted with 30 degrees below zero with wind chill readings of nearly 60 below.

Well, guess what? According to THIS Washington Post article, those same conditions could kick in again next week. And while temperatures here in Rochester aren't expected to be quite THAT cold, we are in for some pretty cold weather.

The Weather Channel says we can expect only single digit highs next Tuesday through Thursday, with a balmy high of 10 degrees -- above zero,at least -- forecast for next Friday. That's quite a bit colder than our average high of 27 degrees for December.

Overnight lows though that period are expected to dip below zero, but will 'only' be in the single digits below zero-- not the 30 below we experienced three years ago. At least, not yet...
