You know you're smack dab in the middle of a good old fashioned Minnesota winter cold snap when the high temperature doesn't even make it above zero, like yesterday and today here in Rochester. And when it's colder here than it is at the South Pole.

But did you know if was actually colder here in Rochester this morning than it was down at the south pole in Antarctica? True story. When I checked the Weather Channel app on my phone this morning, the temperature here in Rochester was a balmy 13 degrees below zero, with a 'feels like' reading of 30 below.

Meanwhile, down in Antarctica, on Snow Hill Island-- which, according to Wikipedia, is "an almost completely snowcapped island, lying off the east coast of the Antarctic Peninsula," the temperature was... 27 degrees. Above zero. And with a 'feels like' reading of 17, again, above zero.

Now, I'll admit I don't know a whole lot about the climate of Snow Hill, Antarctica. But, it's got 'snow' right in it's name, for crying out loud, so I'd guess it's fairly chilly there most days of the year.

Just not as cold as here in southeastern Minnesota, however. At least on January 18th, that is.
