Jimmy Fallon was back behind the desk on the Tonight Show earlier this week, and explained how he almost lost a finger in a freak accident a few weeks ago. That got me thinking about the weirdest way I've injured myself.

While Jimmy nearly lost his finger in something called a 'ring avulsion,' and spent 10 days in the ICU, luckily for me, my weird injury wasn't nearly as serious. It happened probably 25 years ago as I was getting into my car -- or trying to get into my car, anyway. It was the middle of February back in Wisconsin, so I had on a big winter coat. As I sat down in the driver's seat and went to shut the door, somehow my coat became stuck and when the door slammed shut, it slammed shut... right on my left index finger.

Ever slam a car door on your finger? It stings a little bit. And, I ended up needing about 10 stitches on my finger to close the wound. The gang at the emergency room even put one of those metal finger splints on my index finger. This, of course, presented a wonderful opportunity for my coworkers at the radio station to poke fun at me, seeing as it's a little tougher to run the radio control board (and cue up CDs, back in the day) with only one hand. Noticing the splint on my finger, they all asked, "Too much button-pushing, Curt?"

So, while it wasn't serious, slamming my car door on my finger was probably the strangest way I've injured myself. What's the weirdest way you've injured yourself? (And here's Jimmy's 'ring avulsion' story, in case you missed it...)
