Winona, MN (KROC AM News) - A judge last year ruled in favor of  Rochester in a lawsuit filed by the city’s former longtime public transportation provider. And now the judge has signed off on the reimbursement being sought by the city from Rochester City Lines for its legal expenses in fighting the lawsuit.

City Finance Director Dale Martinson says since RCL filed the lawsuit in February 2012, the city’s expenses have totaled around $830,000. The total does not include the amount paid out by its insurance carrier.

After the most recent ruling, the city submitted claims totaling $57,000. The judge awarded the city $10,860.31.

First Transit, the city’s current provider, was also brought into the case and filed claims totaling about $12,000. The judge awarded the company $6,615.67.

Winona County Judge Jeffrey Thompson issued a ruling in October that dismissed claims made by RCL that the bidding process used to award the city’s public transportation contract to First Transit in 2012 was biased. RCL has appealed the ruling.

It also challenging the contract the city awarded to First Transit in 2016.
