When Kenny Chesney rolled into his home state of Tennessee on Saturday (Aug. 11), he did more than just provide thousands of fans with yet another stellar stop on his Trip Around the Sun tour. His two-hour set at Nashville's Nissan Stadium set a new record for attendance, packing 55,182 fans into the venue.

Chesney's new record shattered the one previously set in 2014 by pop band One Direction, who had managed to attract 54,249 to the stadium.

Although he's been routinely breaking his own previously set records all throughout his 2018 tour, and playing to a wide variety of enthusiastic audiences across the nation, Chesney admits that there's just something extra about the vibe he gets in Nashville.

"There’s a special energy that happens when you’re home," he says in a statement. "This one’s for the people who know you, your team, where these songs come from. When they sing the chorus of 'American Kids,' you can feel they know that song in a whole other way – and it’s incredible to hear that much passion and energy coming at the stage.”

It's not a secret that Chesney is a touring dynamo. In a report put out by Pollstar last month, Chesney was revealed as the only country artist to make the Top 10 biggest midyear worldwide tours list.

The list was compiled based on how much money each tour has grossed from Jan. 1 to June 30, 2018—Chesney racked in $62.1 million, putting him at No. 8, and in such company as Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, U2 and the Rolling Stones.
