We all do it. If you're average, you'll fart 14 times a day. (Finally, something I'm ABOVE average in). I didn't realize it, but I have a co-worker who comes into my studio every day and "tries to save my life" this way. Is he great or what?!

A study has been done and it says that farts contain hydrogen sulfide which is toxic in large doses, but can help protect cells and fight illnesses when inhaled in tiny amounts.

Researchers say the smell of flatulence has secret health benefits that could help stave off cancer, strokes, heart attacks and dementia.

Hydrogen sulfide is one of a number of potent smelly gases produced by bacteria as it breaks down food in the gut.

When cells become stressed by disease, they try to produce their own small amounts of the gas. The chemical helps manage inflammation. Without it, the cell can switch off and die.

One researcher said while hydrogen sulfide is a pungent, foul-smelling gas, it could end up being a healthcare hero for future treatments of a variety of diseases.
